Dental CAD Design Quality Control Procedures

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

I. Check Received scanned STL files

1. General Scan Check includes margin competence, abutment undercuts, occlusion accuracy (inspect occlusion and ensure more than 2 contact points are required for accurate occlusion on different tooth occlusal surface)

2. Client Cases Order Elements check to ensure the order created information is consistent with other instructions for individual cases.

3. Material Manufacturer date must be correct before scan files imported to design software.

II. Follow General Client Default Designs Instructions

1. Design Software

2. Design Software Year Version (Version Code etc)

3. Design Default Setting in Software

III. Additional Instructions checked for individual cases

1. Daily Cases instructions translated by customer service staff

2. Technician proofread the translations and upload to the team document system

3. Technicians read the translated request before designs

4. follow client preferences on designs

5. Check occlusion and interproximal contacts

IV. Insertion Path Check

· Ensure that margin all around without undercuts and then set the interproximal contacts visually even on both sides.

V. Margin

1. Draw the margin correctly

2. Smooth the margin

VI. Curve lines check

1. Make design match to the adjacent teeth on occlusion surface size and anatomy and contacts.

2. Curve of Wilson

3. Symmetry of no-functional cuspid and match the height of adjacent tooth

4. Middle Line of design 5. General anatomy, size, length and symmetry of crown 6. Smile curve 7. Arch curve

VII. Occlusion

1. design cusp fossa occlusion when conditions applied.

2. follow customers’ default setting for occlusal clearance

3. Design occlusal clearance even

4. Overlap designs have no lateral interference

VIII. Marginal Ridge

1. Ensure marginal ridge clear and accurate

2. Crown’s margin ridge design matches adjacent tooth’s

IX. Crown Thickness

1. Ensure minimum thickness according to the product material and client instructions

2. Ensure crown’s margin thickness according to client’s setting request

X. Interproximal Contacts

1. Broad Interproximal Contacts and no lateral interference

2. Contact surface must be smooth and no concave or convex surface.

3. Follow customer ‘s setting request

4. Close black triangle invasive gap according to client’s preferences

XI. Bridge

1. Follow Bridge Pontic design (default to modified ridge lap for esthetic unless otherwise requested in general)

2. Bottom Setting

3. Connector thickness
